RFID card for a vehicle and driver

Article contents

An RFID card or key fob makes regular charging and trip recording easier. One tap identifies the car during charging or the driver in the vehicle. MyAgeVolt then shows which car the charging belongs to and who made the trip.

The vehicle card and driver card have different roles

  • For charging, assign the card to the vehicle. The charging transaction will then be shown against the correct car. This is also useful in your own private car park.
  • For driver identification, assign the card to the user. In a vehicle with a configured NBL-2 reader, the trip is assigned to the specific driver.

The same physical card can be assigned to both a vehicle and a driver. In a car with one driver, one identifier can serve both purposes. For a shared company car, we recommend a car key fob on its keys and a personal card for each driver.

What to prepare and how to get started

  1. Decide what the card is for. Select a vehicle for charging records, a driver for trip records, or both links.
  2. Add the card to your Space in MyAgeVolt. Configure the assignment and required permissions with the Space administrator. Cards from AgeVolt are supplied with basic configuration and added to the portal according to the order.
  3. Test charging. At a supported station, follow the display instructions and tap the card. Then check in MyAgeVolt that charging is recorded against the correct vehicle.
  4. If you use NBL-2, also check a trip. After identification with the card, check the assigned driver. A configured reader also allows you to select a business or private trip. An RFID card is also used for this selection.

The reader is useful even with a single driver if you need to distinguish business and private trips. We will explain the specific button functions when configuring your setup.

You can also use your own card

You do not always need to buy a new identifier. You can first test your own card in the Android app on an NFC-enabled phone using the option to add an RFID card. Without a suitable phone, you can try it on an AgeVolt station reader. If the reader recognizes it as an unknown card, ask the administrator to add and assign it.

After adding it, also check that charging works. For use with NBL-2, we will test the card on your reader. Recognition at a station does not automatically mean support by all readers or charging networks.

A card for regular use, the app as an alternative

A key fob on the car keys is ready for every charging session. You can keep a backup card in the vehicle. Use the app for occasional charging or to check and edit records.

An RFID card identifies the vehicle or driver. Paid charging is settled according to your Space settings. Tapping a registered card as an RFID identifier is not a direct payment through a payment terminal.
