Cabling and advance preparation FAQ
Article contents
Preparing the site allows charging to be added gradually without reopening the same cable routes. These answers will help you prepare the project brief. The designer and the documentation for the selected equipment determine the specific cables, protection devices and connections.
What should we prepare if the stations will be installed later?
Identify the parking spaces, planned routes, mounting method and scope for future expansion. The project covers power supplies, communication, protective and earthing components, and the allowances required for future connections.
What cable cross-section do we need?
There is no single value for all wallboxes or Pillar Slim stations. The current, cable route length and installation method, protection devices, and connection capacity of the exact variant determine the selection. A larger through-feed cable can be branched in a suitable box, such as GarageBase, according to the design and installation instructions.
Does each station need a separate supply?
The branch arrangement is designed to suit the equipment and site. The control system can monitor a shared current limit for a branch. The number of stations on a branch is not determined solely by the rated power of the individual connectors.
What is SmartBase used for?
SmartBase is an underground preparation system for mounting a station and storing spare cable length. It allows the site to be prepared first and the station to be added later. The specific procedure and scope of supply are described in the SmartBase installation instructions and SmartBase product documents.
Is the communication bus the same as an internet cable?
No. CIB connects supported hardware components to the SmartSystem. Ethernet connects devices to the relevant data network. Even where similar cables are used for some connections, the interfaces and wiring methods must not be confused.
What must be completed before commissioning?
Mounting, power and communication connections, protection devices, the required tests and electrical inspection according to the design. Limits, metering and station assignments are then configured. A qualified professional must carry out the electrical installation.
